IAM Advanced Diploma

george_and_jenny.jpg.Deltic student George Kemish, HR Manager with the Royal Air Force, receives his Advanced Diploma Award at the 2010 IAM Graduation Ceremony from Jenny Hewell, IAM Chief Executive

Reflecting on his studies with Deltic, George said "I found Deltic Training Ltd to be extremely supportive during the time that I was studying for the Advanced Diploma.  Furthermore, I was impressed by the standard of the support given and in the quick response time in respect of marked work and in answering any questions that I put forward."

About the Advanced Diploma in Administrative Management

The IAM Advanced Diploma in Administrative Management is recognised as a Level 5 programme within the UK Government's National Qualification Framework. It may be broadly compared with the second year of a 3-year BA(Hons) degree course, or final year of a 2-year foundation degree course. A high-level course, and (as with the Diploma) an established, internationally-recognised professional qualification, providing a sound base for progression to the final year BA(Hons) or MBA!

The course comprises five core units as follows:

  • 1. Administrative Systems in the Organisation

        - Problem solving and analysis

        - Designing effective systems

        - Performance improvement and monitoring

        - Systems approaches and models

  • 2. Strategic issues in Administration

        - The organisational environment

        - Introduction to strategic thinking

        - The customer-focused organisation

        - Managing change and culture

  • 3. Administrative Management of Resources

        - Managing projects

        - Managing financial resources

        - Managing expenditure

        - Managing facilities

  • 4. Human Resource Management and Practise.

        - Human resources management in practice

        - Leading and motivating teams

        - Learning and development

        - Performance and reward

  • 5. Administrative Management Case Study or Work Project Report.

Entry criteria:

  • Award-holder of the Diploma in Administrative Management, or the IAM DAEA, or;
  • NVQ level 4 (in a related subject), or A levels, or UK Degree / HNC / HND. or;
  • Equivalent International qualification, or
  • Relevant work experience at an appropriate level.

Suitable for: Those already involved in administration at a higher level and wishing to gain professional recognition for their skills and achievement.

Delivery options: Distance; Tailored Course

Recommended total study hours: The Institutes' suggested Learning Hours for this Award are 200 hours per unit. Our experience suggests that actual hours of study to achieve the Advanced Diploma are lower where the student has relevant higher-level practical knowledge and experience.

Suggested period of study: Deltic recognise the challenging (and rewarding) nature of this course, and that individual prior knowledge, learning style and personal circumstances, will all affect the overall time to be taken in completing this course. Nonetheless, generally we would advise students to sit the course over two examination sittings, giving a total period of study of around 12 months. It is important that the student recognises the greater breadth and depth of this course compared to the Diploma.

Assessment method: 3-hour sat examination per Unit. Optional Work Project Report in place of Unit 5 Case Study paper.

Award: Achievement of the Advanced Diploma offers the chance to upgrade to Full membership of the IAM, and the right to use the professional designation Incorporated Administrative Manager.

Our fully Inclusive course fee includes: IAM Study Guides, Tuition support, access to regular tutorials held in Norwich, IAM Registration fee, past papers, 5 x examination entries, the Award fee, and access to the Deltic Library.

Please note that it is a requirement for students to be in membership of the Institute at the time of examination / examination entry. Membership of the Institute is not included in the Course Fee, as students who have previously studied on the Diploma course, may still have valid membership as part of their three-year course membership, taken at that stage.

Study Progression:

Upon successful completion of the iam Advanced Diploma, students can progress to the final year of a BA (Hons) . Please see the iam website for further details or click here.

As an alternative, Deltic students who successfuilly achieve the IAM Advanced Diploma may be considered - and subject to interview - for direct entry to the final year of the Executive MBA programme from the University of East Anglia. Please contact us for details.
